As our population continues to age the demand for lifestyle village living continues to grow - especially in the sunny Tasman province. Construction first began on the 8.4 hectare Olive Estate Retirement Village in Richmond (13kms south of Nelson) back in 2014 with stage one completed in 2015 to rave reviews. Two years on the village is still in high demand and owners Karen and Mark Nimmo are now progressing with the next stage of the development.

Shea Gillison, from Canopy NZ Ltd, Landscape Architects, has been appointed by Olive Estate to design the exteriors of the new villas. Shea wanted to investigate alternative paving options for the patios and outdoor areas of the villas under construction, and was keen to use Firth’s Forum® paver,  from the Designer Paving range.

“Nick Schwartz from Firth had brought in their new range of pavers a while back and even though we had used Firth paving before we were very impressed with their new modern Designer Series – in particular the Forum 400 x 400mm honed paver in the new colours,” explains Shea. “When the next stages of the village were ready to go we decided to specify the use of Firth’s pavers in the three colours that worked best with the colour scheme of the initial stages of the village - Avon, Milford and Pahia.”

With about six of the villas in stage 3b completed, and the exteriors being finished as they go, Shea says that they are very happy with the new choice of paver. “They look great down, they have consistent colour and size so we have given Nick further orders of pavers for future stages, including the new shopping complex and the Lake House that will be started next year.”

Construction of the $50m lifestyle village is expected to continue through to 2019 and, once complete, Olive Estate will house up to 400 residents in 112 villas, 30 two-storey townhouses and three multi-storey apartment blocks containing 26 apartments.
