Award-winning masonry home builder John Macdonald and Firth have created a number of much-admired homes throughout the Waikato – including John’s own home.
John S MacDonald Builders specialise in masonry homes; as well as renovations, conventional homes and commercial developments.
John, who’s been in the industry for 24 years, runs the business with a staff of 16 from his Chartwell home in Hamilton. But it’s not only his home, it is also a show home - where clients can be shown around the classic contemporary home by the person who not only built it, but who lives there himself.

With the help of the Firth team, lead by Firth Representative Andrew Porter, John’s home was completed in 10 months. All the concrete for the floor was Firth Certified Concrete®, the exterior walls were constructed using Firth HotBloc® and all interior walls were standard blocks.
When clients approach John S Macdonald Builders, John gives them his personal attention. This enables him to find out about their lifestyle and what type of home would best suit their needs. Once this is established, John can recommend the architect/designer that will suit the client’s requirements, if they don’t have plans of their own.
