Masonry Homes - Tauranga Mid Range Masonry
Affordable Masonry Creates Dream Home in Papamoa
When planning to build their home, Simon Meredith and partner Jody Dennehy of Papamoa had a vision of what they wanted - and it wasn’t your average brick and tile.
However, like most people, they had a set budget. That was a
build cost of between $1,500 to $1,700 per m² - right in the middle
of the mid-range Kiwi home market (approximately $270,000 -
$600,000).
"The biggest compromise was the size of the house," says Meredith,
but they have still ended up with a good-sized, easy living 181m2
three-bedroom, two bathroom, double internally accessed garaged
home.
Sold on the idea of a masonry home, the couple knew the high mass
of masonry would be warmer in winter, cooler in summer and quieter
all year round. As an added bonus, they don't get condensation even
on the chilliest winter mornings.
Passionate about sustainable energy, the couple have double glazed
all their high windows to retain warmth without the need for window
dressings. They also opted for the higher end ultra Pink® Batts®
for ceiling insulation, as well as silencer Batts.
A stack bonded feature wall made from Honed Block is a highlight
in the entrance area. They have also used the Honed Block as a
feature wall in the full wet bathrooms - which combined with the
slightly pitched sloping floors, means there is no glass to
clean.
The couple also used the strong, energy efficient Firth RibRaft®
floor system for added warmth.
Keen mountain bikers and beach lovers, they included an outdoor
shower in the design. Using Hinuera pavers on the walls, it's
empathetic to the environment and enhances the featured blockwork
of the house.
