Landscaping - "Mucking In" Wanganui
Firth pavers go wild
Phil 'Gilly' Gilmore's unwavering dedication to rugby, bowling
and surf life saving, on the wild West Coast of Wanganui, led to
him being nominated for a garden makeover by the Mucking In team
and Firth.
Tony Murrell, Mucking In's landscape designer, decided on a
beachside hideaway theme for Phil's garden makeover. "Phil likes to
have lots of people over, so a grand courtyard was a must and also
a place for him to sit and enjoy seeing his grandchildren play,"
says Tony.
The Mucking In team created a paved courtyard situated half way down the property facing out to Phil's prized children's tree and a play area just off the garage. Tony used Firth Courtyard FlagstoneTM pavers in Cream Sands for the courtyard leading from the driveway to the entertaining and play areas.
Phil's passion for the beach is reflected in the purpose built outdoor shower constructed using one of Phil's old surfboards recycled into a backboard for the shower. The Firth pavers double as a durable surface for the shower floor and a wide pathway leading from the driveway, past the outdoor shower and onto the courtyard.
"I have found over the years that Firth consistently supplies quality products that enhance my design schemes," says Tony. "It helps to know you will get a consistency of colour, size and thickness when paving and this is hugely important on Mucking In as we only have two days to get the job done," he says.
The bare section now reflects the wonders of the west coast. The warm colours of the pavers contrast with the intense vibrancy of the chairs, which in turn is softened by the planting of grasses, flaxes and Coastal Spider Aloe. Truly a place to hide away with family and friends.
