A great working relationship the foundation for success at Stonefields

The new urban township of Stonefields, Auckland’s newest city fringe suburb, was established on the 110 hectare site of the former Winstone quarry at Mt Wellington just 8kms from Auckland’s CBD, and will eventually house 6,500 residents in 2,900 dwellings. It includes a 500 pupil primary school, a town centre and nine neighbourhood parks, including a wetland.

PMG Contractors Ltd, who have been working with Firth since they came back into the market in 1987, is the largest of the concrete suppliers to the new township laying the bigger percentage of all the foundations, driveways, coloured patios and paths.

Paul Gordon, Director of PMG Contracting Ltd explains, "We are certainly Firth and Fletcher Building aligned. We call Firth for deliveries for between 15-20 sites per week, and it can be anything from 2 to 20 trucks per site. We use Fletcher products such as steel etc wherever we can. We also work very closely with Firth on the John Fillmore footpath concrete for Auckland City and other major projects, so one would say we know Firth better than most."

"Firth is very good at what they do. With the amount of concrete deliveries we get from them, we have very few things go wrong. They do exceptionally well on the really big jobs, where coordination and timing is imperative. It's a great working relationship and they are a key supplier for us."

A part of Auckland
Stonefields was named after the blue stone that was mined in the quarry for many years and which has been used to build what are now some of Auckland's historic buildings. These include the Auckland Town Hall, St Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Symonds Street, the Melanesian Mission at Mission Bay and even some of the steps up to the One Tree Hill monument.
