Firth have supplied more than 1600m3 of concrete for the 9,600m2 floor area of the new store which includes a post tension floor - a method of reinforcing concrete by applying compression to poured concrete after the curing process, creating an extremely smooth finish.
"The majority of the roof and structure was already complete when we started the pours for this floor," said Ray Boyd, Sales Representative (Auckland Key Accounts) for Firth. "June is normally a tough month for concrete pours due to Auckland's unpredictable weather but due to Dominion Constructors having the roof on we were able to complete the eight major pours under cover."
The pours began at midnight with the Firth team at Albany supplying the 200m3 required each night. "A laser screed was used to get the best finish," adds Ray. "This floor is as smooth as glass - it has come up really well and is exactly the finish the customer was after."
"We are very happy with the result," said Scot Flett, Project Manager for Dominion Constructors. "Bunnings have been trying to achieve a uniformity of colour and finish on their floor. We have certainly achieved this for them."
"This is a flagship store for Bunnings and is a model of what they are trying to achieve for their stores around the country," adds Ray.
