Concrete manufacture to become more eco friendly

“The New Zealand Cement Manufacturing Standard (NZS3122) has been reviewed, subject to public consultation, and is in the final phases of the Standards Committee reviewing the feedback, ” explains Dene Cook, Technical Manager for Firth.

The aim of this revision is to amend NZS 3122 in line with a worldwide initiative to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete by reducing the CO2 emissions associated with the process of cement manufacture.

The revised standard will see the percentage of mineral additions in cement increase by 5% to a maximum of 10%. Extensive testing has been conducted to explore the impact of this modification on rheological and hardened properties of concrete.
