Restricted Building Work regulations take effect
Thursday, 12 January 2012In 2004 changes were made to the Building Act to encourage better building design and construction. As part of the changes the LBP scheme was introduced recognizing and supporting professional skills in the industry. Currently the scheme is competency based but in 2015 it will become qualifications based. The introduction of RBW is another step toward giving consumers confidence that their homes will be built right the first time.

Concrete Becomes Greener
Monday, 7 February 2011Aiming to be the first 5-star green design educational building in New Zealand, the new $30 million student services building at Waikato University has seen the ‘greenness’ of the construction process aided by expertise from Fletcher Construction, the main contractor for the project, and Firth who is supplying the concrete. The site features a new ‘green’ concrete mix, GreenCrete®, incorporating recycled aggregate and fly ash from Huntly Power Station, replacing 20% of the cement content.

Certified Concrete – New IRD Premises, Wellington
Sunday, 14 February 2010One Featherston Development, located on the corner of Featherston and Bunny Street, Wellington is set to become the largest commercial office building in New Zealand with a massive floor plate of 3,200m². Built by Fletcher Construction and to be tenanted by the IRD and two other Government tenants, it will consist of retail and service spaces on one level, two levels of car parks and 12 levels of office space. It is being constructed of a precast concrete structure with a substantial concrete shear core at the centre.
