Temporary Fuel Surcharge, effective 23rd March 2026
As I’m sure you’re aware military action in Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, putting pressure on global fuel supply and costs. This has resulted in significant increases to the cost of fuel. Whilst we have worked hard to absorb these costs, to ensure we can continue to deliver a high level of service and continuity of supply we will be introducing a temporary fuel surcharge, effective 23rd March 2026.
The temporary surcharge will cover a portion of the additional fuel related costs, as they are passed on to us by our suppliers.
What does this mean for you?
- The fuel surcharge will be applied as a separate line on invoices.
- The surcharge is variable and may increase or decrease over time, in line with movements in the price of fuel. We’ll be using the National retail diesel price, verified by Envisory published weekly.
- We will also be reviewing our out of area and zone charges, please contact your Sales Rep for further information on these temporary surcharges.
- We will be reviewing these temporary surcharges regularly to try and reduce the impact to you as much as possible.
This approach allows us to respond to external fuel cost movements in a measured and transparent way, without the need for frequent changes to base rates, while continuing to provide the level of service and reliability you expect from Firth.
We will monitor regional impacts closely to ensure there are no significant deviations from the national approach as the situation evolves.

Based on the current diesel pump price, our fuel surcharge from the 30th March 2026 will be $9.90 per m³. Central Otago Certified Fuel Surcharge
We are seeing a significant increase in haulage costs to this region, combined with the distances that raw materials need to travel to reach our Otago plants, the fuel surcharge in this region is impacted. Based on the current diesel pump price, our fuel surcharge for Central Otago from the 30th March will be $18.00 per m³.
