Concrete... anytime, almost anywhere

Concrete is the world’s most widely used man-made material. With roughly 3.5 billion tonnes produced globally each year, this durable, fire-resistant and versatile building material is a foundational component of modern society. It enables the construction of resilient homes, roads, bridges, dams and essential infrastructure - even in remote locations.

With 60 certified concrete plants nationwide, Firth has the capability to produce concrete for customers in most major built-up areas across the country. But that’s not all. Supported by four mobile batching plants located around New Zealand, Firth can produce and supply concrete to even the most remote locations.

“We can produce and supply concrete to almost anywhere, anytime,” says Cameron Lee, General Manager of Firth, the country’s largest concrete supplier. “We have a fleet of mobile plants dotted around the country that have produced concrete for our customers in some very challenging environments.”

Wind Farm Projects

Wind farms are a good example of Firth’s capability. Recently, Firth deployed four mobile plants across two major wind farm projects: Kaiwera Downs - 15 km southeast of Gore - and Kaiwaikawe - 12 km northwest of Dargaville. Both projects are being constructed by Higgins for Mercury Energy. One of the plants had previously supplied the Waipipi wind Farm.

“We also use our ability to quickly stand up a purpose built facility to support major projects or large bodies of work - for example, the Auckland Airport precinct over the last three to four years.”

Although Firth has two permanent plants based at Auckland Airport, customer demand required a third, mobile plant to bolster supply during periods of high demand. “Auckland Airport has, over the years, required large volumes of concrete for various runway projects, so a mobile plant was set up to help.”

“Sometimes our permanent plants are too far away, and it’s not economical - or even possible - to retard the concrete or provide the required volume to allow for long travelling times to remote sites. So we have the ability to set up a mobile plant to support our permanent plants or create a new plant site. Give us a call and we’ll work through what we can do to support your project.”
