Shaping Projects Years in Advance
Firth’s products often form the foundations of houses, buildings, bridges, urban spaces - and everything in between. Many projects take years to progress from the initial concept, through product specification, to final supply.
From the very beginning, whether the project is large or small, architects, landscape architects and specifiers are searching for products that will bring their designs to life. Firth’s Architectural Consultant, Bernice Cumming, is often part of these conversations years in advance, helping determine which products and solutions will best suit each project. After years of planning, the team at Firth becomes involved with tenders and contractors to complete the builds.

Over the years, Bernice and Firth have worked closely with designers, influencing a variety of projects - with some products and finishes even becoming part of the standard range.
In July, at the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects (NZILA) conference, Bernice received the President’s Award for Personal Contribution to the Development of the Profession of Landscape Architecture.
“This prestigious honour recognises individuals who go above and beyond in their dedication and service to the profession,” says Christy Thompson, National Masonry Manager for Firth. “Bernice exemplifies this through her unwavering commitment, tireless energy, time and expertise to shape our landscape.”
The NZILA judges described Bernice’s work as having: “A meaningful and lasting impact, reflecting the true essence of service and the strength of individual action in driving collective success.” |
“It was a great honour to receive this award after working in the industry for over 30 years,” says Bernice. “I feel very humbled and extremely proud of all we have achieved.”
